Millennium Falcon (v.2)
by Pepa Quin

In this version, I took great care to get the dimensions right as well as the support structure. I can finally say that this is, in my opinion, a full-scale 'minifig' Falcon. Of course, I realize that many people have differing views on what makes minifig scale, but they can go make their own Falcon. :)

Before I even started building, I went to the computer first. With an top-down diagram of the ship, I was able to map out where all the internal support structure would go. I built this first, and then kicked it around a bit to make sure it would hold together. It could even hold as much as 70lbs!

Building off of the interal support beams, I maintained the structural design I had started in order to give the ship it's shape. It was very important for me to be able to transport the ship easily, so I designed it so that I could hold the entire ship with just one hand - that handhold is the underside turret. This meant I did not put a turret on the underside, but I figured very few people would notice.

I finished this ship in June, 2005, just in time for my first ever Lego display (it appeared alongside my Sandcrawler and Hailfire Droid). I was building right up until the show - that very morning, in fact. For the next two years it made the rounds of various shows, travelling all around the Chicago area and even going to Washing D.C. for Brickfest 2006. It now rests in retirement on top of a special shelf I bought just for it.
