The Sandcrawler is one of my oldest models, and is one of only two of my creations that have been to every single show I've done (and the other is much, much smaller).
This was also my first creation to be built with an unseen internal support structure. It is essentially a misshapen box on treads and is much lighter then it might appear.
When I first built the sandcrawler, I did the top of it in tan due to coloration errors in some of the source images I based the model of off (also, not enough brown in my collection). I later corrected this coloration as well as made a much more detailed top. The wheel housings, too, got a bit of a makeover. The rest of the coloration of the vehicle is based mostly on source images. I also used a mix of new-brown and old-brown to give it a slight patched-up look.
The treads of this vehicle can actually turn, but since I've got them looped around fairly tight it can only roll on friction surfaces like a low-pile carpet. I'm not completely done with this creation - someday I hope to create an interior.
